A Workshop Worth The Money | Stoke-Ness

Hello from Southeastern France.

Meg, the girls and I are here visiting our friends Alex and Andrea Strohl. It’s been a culture shift in the best way. I can tell you that it’s quieter and more relaxed then I expected. I’ve barely been bothered about spilling coffee on my laptop and causing it to work intermittenly. It’s easy to imagine living here, enough to look at the real estate listings.

This month I’m sharing the workshop I am taking, an IG account for the folks who grew up reading encyclopedias for fun, and my latest video about the coolest little motorcycle money can buy.

Be stoked,
Isaac

Forrest Mankins FM Film Presets

When Quentin Tarantino makes a movie you watch it.

When Forrest makes a new preset pack you buy it. It’s a no brainer as they say.

I’ve used every set of Forrest’s Presets since he started making them. They are solid on there own and the best base to learn how to create your own signature look.

Everyone has presets (even Youtuber’s sell them). If you want professional, character enhancing presets that make your photos look like you know what you are doing (instead of looking like you went on a wanderlust trip in teal and orange), then you should only buy presets from Forrest Mankins. In the creative community all the pros know that Mankins does it right.

Photo/Video Technique

The Casey Neistat Monthly class

I recently started Casey’s class. Though I get paid to direct and film videos for companies, I am always hungry to learn more.

This class has so far been incredible. If you have watched Casey’s videos then you know he has a style and process that created an entire genre of YouTube. I have always wanted to learn his techniques.

He walks through how he comes up with ideas, how he shoots and how he edits all to create an engaging story.

It’s well worth the cost for any level of creative wanting to get better at making videos.

10/10

Who I am Following

Depths of Wikipedia

Depths of Wiki is my new favorite IG follow.

It shares random, interesting Wikipedia articles that you would never see on your own. Articles about the Foot in Mouth Award, Exploding trousers, and Hanlon’s Razor will make you smarter all while reminding you that humans and the Earth are weird.

Music I'm Diggin'

Beginners Luck by Maribou State

A mix of beats, cinematic, asian themes and pop melodies, this is the song of the month.

A New Dirtbike With Vintage Style | Buscadero 110R Review

I know many of you have been curious about my Buscadero 110 motorcycle. I finally got around to finishing my review video where I explain whether it’s worth the money. Give it a watch even if you are just here for the entertainment.

Reads

Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner
This month my friend and photographer Forrest Mankins is recommending this book.

“(It’s) exactly the kind of book I wouldn’t normally read, historical fiction, but it’s amazing. The book is about connecting the “old west” to the newer west, about family history, how easy it is to forget how vivid and real our older generations lives were”. - Forrest Mankins

One of my things is a good book recommendation from a person I respect. I’m excited to add this one to my reading list.

PS Forrest just released a preset pack he has been working on for almost 2 years. It mimics his signature film shots we all know and love. Just like his last couple of preset packs, it’s incredible work that has heightened my photos to a level that would not have been possible without using them.

Parting Thought:

My Dad taught me that to be trusted you only need to do what you say you will and not do what you say you won’t.

“Let your yes be yes and your no be no”

The tricky part is only committing to what you are willing to follow through on. Learn to only say what you can do and you will be known as a person others can rely on.

Be stoked and have a great month,

Isaac

This newsletter, my photography and my videos are all free, but not cheap. If you want to help me continue to make things you can buy me virtual coffee.

Don't have the funds to buy a coffee at the moment? Then sharing this newsletter with someone you think would like it is the next best thing. Thanks!
